Organizing content

In a sports bog – I want all of the posts from the previous season to appear in the archives or on a static page, but not on the front page. How do I do this? I am just starting to write content on this season (in the race to the playoffs), but I only want this seasons posts to appear on the front page.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This is a perfect use for categories. You can assign each post to a category for the respective season, such as 2015, 2014, etc. You might have to go back and add each season’s categories to their respective posts, but you can save yourself time going forward by changing the default category for new posts to the current season. You can then use a custom menu so visitors can go to the category page and see all the posts for each season. As for keeping old seasons off the front page, I’ve never tried this but here’s an idea: you could create a static front page. In that page try the Display Posts Shortcode. If your category for the current season is 2015, I think this might work:
[display-posts category="2015" include_excerpt="true"]
Again, I’ve never used that shortcode (I just discovered it writing this answer!) so I’m not really sure how it works or what it looks like, but give it a shot and tell us how it worked! -
