Organizing Media to make multiple use easy
-
How can I organize the media so that the filenames and folders match my site structure?
I am using the Media primarily for PDFs that I want to reference from multiple pages. And I want to be able to upload a new version of a PDF and have all of the references to it remain the same so they now reference the new document.
Since new uploads go into a date based folder and I do not appear to be able to move things into other folders or change filenames, it seems as though I am stuck.
Is there some hidden or secret method to enable this to work?

Hi there,
There isn’t a way to upload or organize media to replace an existing file (like a PDF) with a new version at the same link. Each time you upload a new media file, it will be given a unique link. If you need to replace that older version with the new one, you’ll need to replace the link in the pages that reference it.
There is a way you can speed up that process, though. Your site’s dashboard includes an Omnisearch feature here: https://gdtoxicity.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=omnisearch
You can enter the link to the old version of the PDF, and that omnisearch will find everywhere on your site that has that link. That way, you can go directly to the page(s) where the PDF appears to update it with a link to the new version.
Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)
