    Hey There,

On my blog, I have created different sections along the top such as ‘home’, ‘homeschooling’ ‘travelschooling’ ’35 day challenges’….

How do I write a blog post that will fall under one of those specific categories? When I click on it, and the go to ‘write’ it just shows up on my home page and not under the proper category.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello there,

On my blog, I have created different sections along the top such as ‘home’, ‘homeschooling’ ‘travelschooling’ ’35 day challenges’….

How do I write a blog post that will fall under one of those specific categories? When I click on it, and the go to ‘write’ it just shows up on my home page and not under the proper category.

I believe you are referring to your site https://iheartlife.home.blog. I checked your menu, and it seems like you’re referring to this: https://monosnap.com/file/gv7tDJUuwwTkLR8C6v6OcslAs1Aplr

As I understand, you’re trying to create category menus. It will be different links with different blog posts. Say for example, “Travel” and “Food.” If someone clicks, “Travel” they will see posts related to “Travel” and same for “Food.” Therefore, you need to have “Categories” added to your menus.

It’s not working for your site, because you added “Pages” on your menu, instead of “Categories.”

Please do the following to create category menus.

Let’s remove the pages first from your menu, so it won’t cause confusion later.
    1. Please click “My Sites” on the upper left hand side.
    2. Then, please click “Customize” in your left.
    3. Then click “Menus” on your left.
    4. Select “Primary.”
    5. Click each menu that suppose to be a category, and click “Remove” link.
    6. Don’t forget to click the “Publish” button when you’re done.

Next, we will add Categories to your site.
    1. Make sure Customizer is close by clicking x on the upper left hand side of the screen. https://monosnap.com/file/m73FuHF6i1edIADe1MC81c7gTi4tht
    2. Then click “My Site” in the upper left hand side.
    3. Click “Settings” in your left.
    4. Next, click “Writing” at the top.
    5. And click “Categories.” You can refer to this screenshot: https://monosnap.com/file/fPp76kjn7Z6H37gVOUBPNkVfE7VJi2
    6. Then, click “Add New Category” button. https://monosnap.com/file/jz7H93jZAronqhJEezW3NO4R4gMo1l
    7. Add all the categories you think you would need.

Once done adding categories, you can now put them on your menu.
    1. Please click “My Sites” on the upper left hand side.
    2. Then, please click “Customize” in your left.
    3. Then click “Menus” on your left.
    4. Select “Primary.”
    5. Next, click “Add Items” button.
    6. This part is important: By default, “Pages” are selected. Therefore, make sure that you click “Categories”. See this screenshot: https://monosnap.com/file/9szNaVWhd2pEukQYUtP3bfR57MhQET
    7. Click each category you want to add.
    8. Don’t forget to click the “Publish” button when you’re done.

The final step is to assign categories for each of your post.
    1. Make sure Customizer is close by clicking x on the upper left hand side of the screen. https://monosnap.com/file/m73FuHF6i1edIADe1MC81c7gTi4tht
    2. Please click “My Sites” on the upper left hand side.
    3. Next, click “Blog Posts” in your left.
    4. Edit the post that you want to assign a category.
    5. Look for the “Categories & Tags” section in your right. Please refer to this screenshot: https://monosnap.com/file/Y0JGWyo40yrvyDe66LKXh6zI1NOVlV
    6. Select the appropriate category from the list.
    7. Don’t forget to click the “Update” button when you’re done.
    8. You will have to this assigning of category for each of your blog post, and new posts.

You can now check your new category menus on your website. Let me know if you need further assistance.

    Regards,
    Rose
