Origin vs Fresh & Clean
-
I recently changed to the “Fresh & Clean” theme right before it was retired. I spent some time researching too! The fact that it is retired makes me think that I picked the wrong theme.
Today I noticed the “Origin” theme, that seems very similar. Is that a better theme?
I know it is personal preference…but there are quirks to each theme.
Just soliciting opinions basically…

I basically want suggestions for clean and simple two column themes for a writer who doesn’t post original pictures.
Thanks in advance.
-
PS: I am scared to test Origin because I won’t be able to switch back to fresh & clean theme now that it is retired.

That’s not correct: retired means no longer available on newly created blogs, but still available in blogs created before the theme became retired.

Click my username please and check my blog to see that I’m the one most qualified to give you the above reply.
Or check this screenshot to see F&C under “Available Themes” in my test blog:

Then see it activated:

Also notice “261 items” on the second screenshot and compare with the number you’ve got. My dashboard says 261 because the blog was created before any theme became retired. -

Justpi has stated the truth. There is no need for confirmation.
No content is ever lost when changing themes.
Go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes
browse themes until you find one you like and click “activate”
or type in the name of the theme you want to use and
click the “activate” link when it appearsAfter you change your theme all you need to do is go here Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets > Inactive Widgets and re-install them where you want them to appear. The widget contents and settings will be the same as they were prior to changing themes.

Thank you all!
@justpi, I hope you know I was just getting a second opinion. I officially recognize that you are wordpress.com studly, and I greatly appreciate you taking the time to help me out.
Am I remembering wrong, or did their used to be a preview option for themes? So that you could preview your content in the theme without activating it? I swear I’ve fiddled with such a feature before but can’t find it now…

Yes,there is a theme customizer.
Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled: http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/Yes, you can activate it here > Appearance > Themes
select theme
thumbnail appears
See under thumbnail and click “Live Preview”
Activate Live Preview DetailI do not use the theme customizer. All of the very same functions that will disappear in the future can currently be accessed from your dashboard.
Appearance > Header
Appearance > Background
Appearance > Theme Options (applicable only to some themes)
Settings > Reading (set a static front page)
Site Title and Tagline > Settings > General -
@smoothreentry: No problem – you were right not to risk it if you weren’t sure, and I tried to show you I know what I’m saying.
