Original website creator fired from organization, refuses to transfer website

We have a non-profit organization, and back in 2022-2023 we assigned one of our staff to build a website. Now several months ago in 2025, she was let go due to issues (not pertaining to the website). She is now delaying transferring the website to use it as leverage for demands, and we fear she might be the type to delete it all together.
Every legal advice specialist we ask on this matter advises us to contact WordPress. However the Chatbot keeps referring us to a human, which we require a paid plan for. Which in turn requires a website that we do not have, and setting up a payment plan for a temporary non-functioning website is not something we feel comfortable with, as we fear the human worker might not have the authority to speak on other websites.
The website uses our copyright, we paid for the domain (albeit via the original creator), and we hold the rights to the database of portfolio items that are being used on the website. We have all our information on the ‘chamber of commerce’ that we can provide, the dutch version (KVK – Kamer van Koophandel).
How would we go about getting in contact with WordPress on this matter?A different forum post had replies of WordPress personnel stating they do not do ‘hostile takeovers’. And while I understand this, we wish to do what we can to take control over the website that we paid for, that was made for our organization, and that is now being threatened for deletion along with the invaluable history of information and pictures.

Hello, @gmgverberne!I checked your site and noticed that it’s not hosted on WordPress.com but is instead a self-hosted WordPress.org site, as you can see here:

That forum is perfect for sites like yours that use WordPress software but aren’t hosted with WordPress.com.
