Orvis Image Help

    Hi!

I understand that the Orvis theme automatically makes media full sized on the right hand side in portfolio pages but I was wanting the images as tiles on the right hand side rather than a column of fullsized images.

I have added my images in a tile gallery block yet they still show as a single column on the right hand side.

    Thanks!

  • Hi there – The Portfolio post type always displays the images on top of one another by design. Because it is a portfolio, it forces the largest display of the image possible within the space available.

Regular Posts allow for galleries. If you are looking for a theme that has a somewhat similar layout, but offers posts and galleries, try Altofocus: https://wordpress.com/theme/altofocus

If by “Portfolio post type” you mean “portfolio project content type,” then I don’t find this to be true on all portfolio themes, and I suspect that it may not be true generally for portfolio projects on most themes. On the Blask and Rebalance themes, for example, I was able to create galleries of various types, image sizes, and number of columns in portfolio projects. In the WP-Admin (so-called “Classic”) Editor the options are as follows:

Type: Thumbnail Grid, Tiled Mosaic, Square Tiles, Circles, Tiled Columns, and Slideshow
Image Size: Thumbnail, Medium, Large, and Full Size
    Columns: 1-9

One limitation of control that I noticed, on both Blask and Rebalance, is that when the “Tiled Mosaic” and “Tiled Columns” types are chosen, the number of columns chosen is ignored.

On the Orvis theme, however, I had a lot of trouble creating galleries of various types, image size, and column numbers, both in the Block Editor and in the WP-Admin Editor. The specs I set (type, size, and column number) in the Block Editor were mostly ignored, while they occasionally worked in the WP-Admin Editor. I’d been considering reporting my results at the Forums Help site since yesterday.

    Another limitation:
When either the “Tiled Mosaic” or the “Tiled Columns” type is selected, in addition to the number of columns chosen, the size chosen is also ignored.

    Thank you!

I will see check out some other themes to see if they work better, but I also found I can make a mosaic gallery with WP admin, so I will play with that as well.

    @cassidyyoungdesign,

Glad to help! Let us know if you have any additional questions. : -)

while they occasionally worked in the WP-Admin Editor.
The mistake I made on Orvis in my earlier tests was that when I switched to WP-Admin I still had the Block Editor code in the editor. So after correcting for that error, I’m getting the same results on Orvis as I reported above on Blask and Rebalance. I plan to summarize my test results elsewhere, regarding the size and columns restrictions on certain gallery types.
