Orvis Portfolio vs. Blog Post

On my “Episodes/Blog” page using the Orvis theme, I’d like to have the blog posts show up as a grid with the featured photo and title, rather than having to scroll endlessly through all the text of every blog post. I understand that adding each blog post as a portfolio page would create that effect, but I have 2 questions:
1) Can I turn an existing blog post into a Portfolio page? (or will I have to re-do every post as a Portfolio and delete the former blog post?)
2) Will my followers still get email notifications for new Portfolio pages, as opposed to new blog posts? (I want to make sure they’re still notified of new content)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

1. Yes, you’ll need to redo the posts.
2. No, the emails are only sent for posts.
Have you considered using featured images with a read more tag or post excerpt? This would keep the display of posts on the page short and visually impactful with the featured image.

Thank you for that helpful info–that’s exactly what I needed to know. I ended up switching themes altogether to one that offered more appealing visual layouts.
