Orvis Theme – Converting Portfolio to 3 Columns?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi – I am using the Orvis theme, I have set my portfolio projects as my home page and all is working well except featured photos are appearing as 2 columns instead of the 3 that is show in the theme preview. How do I change this?

Additionally – is there a way to re-arrange projects so that show up in a different order or will they always how up in the order they are posted?

    My blog is – paigelpatunas.wordpress.com

    Hi there,

The Orvis theme is designed to display your portfolio projects differently depending on the size of the user’s screen. When viewed on screens larger than about 1345 pixels (about 13.5 inches), the portfolio will display in three columns. On smaller screens, it will be two columns, and just one column on mobile devices. It is all part of the responsive design of this theme. This theme doesn’t have any built in options to adjust that setting.

As for your second question, the projects will show up in the order in which they are published, according to date and time. To change the Publish Date on a portfolio, go to the editor for that project, click the blue date next to the word “Publish” in the right sidebar, and choose the date you’d like. Click anywhere outside the calendar box, and the Publish Date for the portfolio will change. Once you update the post, it should be placed on the home page according to the new publish date order.

If you are going to work on rearranging the order of your projects, something that may also be helpful to know is that the projects will post from left to right according to publish date, the top left project being the most recent. Because of the issue with viewing the page differently on various screen sizes, you may have to play with it for a bit to get the projects to display the way you want them to.

For what its worth, my screen displays your site in the two column format, and I really like it! The pictures are beautiful! I totally understand what its like to want to create what you are envisioning, though. I hope this info helps! Good luck!

Thank you so much for the comprehensive and super helpful response! That all makes total sense and I’ll keep the left to right in mind as I upload the rest of my current portfolio.

And thanks for your feedback! This is my first ever portfolio type website and I’m new at film photo so that means a lot!

One last question — do you know how you would add text on the left hand side under your webpage name? As how they have it in the example text? I want to put a very short about me there with some info about what i shoot on.

You are so sweet! I am glad I could help, and I really do like your site and photos! Keep going! :)

I just looked at your page, and it looks like you may have gotten it, but you can add text to that left sidebar area of the homepage by navigating to My Sites > Pages > Home (Or Paige Patunas? Whatever you decided to name that page.) That will bring you to the page editor. There, you can change the page title (For example, if you want to change it to “About”, you can.), and you can use the blocks to add any content you’d like, and it will show up in that area of your homepage once you publish it.

I see you’re from Jersey City! I don’t live there anymore, but I’m from Lyndhurst! We were neighbors! :) Good luck with everything!
