Hello wordpress. I would like to try your website building interface to make a new website for my business. If I provide the current domain that I own during the initial configuration steps, will my current website go inactive?

Hi there,
Your current website will only go offline once you update its name servers/DNS records to point the domain to us instead of to your current host. Even if you transfer your domain to us completely, we don’t do this change automatically, so you’re always in control of where your domain is pointing.
That said, all sites on WordPress.com get a free WordPress.com subdomain when the site is created, that functions just like any regular subdomain, and your site is fully online and accessible at that subdomain (provided you set it to public).
So I’d suggest you just use that address to start with. You can then experiment and build your site at that free address, even upgrade the site while still using the free address, and only add your existing domain once you’re ready to switch it to us and take the current site offline.
Let me know if you have any questions about this.
