Other options to web site redirect

    Good day, I would like to begin by stating that I have read through the web site redirect and moving a blog pages. That being said, I still have a few queries.

    1) I am wondering if any one knows a way of porting the followers to the new blog site?

    2) Are there any alternative ways/better ways or other options to the website redirect?

    I appreciate any input that you may have. Thanks in advance.

    Are you referring to transferring your subscribers from a free hosted WordPress.com blog to a WordPress.org install?

    If so, provided you install and activate the JetPack plugin http://jetpack.me on your WordPress.org install, and provide the relevant URL(s), then Staff will do the transfer of subscribers and stats for you. Please do that now so it’s ready for Staff to make the transfer.

    Thanks for the quick reply timethief.

    That sounds correct. We have an IIS server running a local blog (wordpress.org install). I have the content from our free site at wordpress.com and the theme configured. I had to install jetpack to get some of the features/widgets back.

    Would you be able to explain the process a bit more when you say Staff will do the transfer of subscribers? Is that like the guided transfer of a site?

    Hi johnkuhling,

    I can transfer your WordPress.com and email followers to your new blog. You will need to connect Jetpack to the same WordPress.com user account as your site here.

    Once this is done, please list the URLs of the WordPress.com site and the new .org install so I can make the transfer happen.

    Also please let me know if you wish for me to merge the site stats as well.

    Guided Transfer is an upgrade option for users who wish to move all of their site content, not just followers, from WordPress.com to a new self-hosted site. If you already have your new site set up, this will not be necessary.

    Site Redirect is an upgrade that allows you to redirect people who go to your WordPress.com site so they end up on your new self-hosted site.

    WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and have separate logins. If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click the link above and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.
