our own domain doesn't work even though it's already mapped
-
Hi,
We are trying to move our own domain name to our wordpress site. Our name server has already done their part of the job and our domain (futurecirucs.fi) is seen at “My Domains” (activated at 2th july 2014) . The “old”, wordpress -Domain (futurecircus.wordpress.com) should be mapped/redirected to futurecircus.fi now. But the address (www.futurecircus.fi) still doesn’t work even though we have set the domain as our Primary domain. Have you any ideas what has gone wrong and why the address is not working? (at the moment we have set futurecircus.wordpress.com as the primary domain, because it’s the only way to see the web page. How can we get the wright domain to work?with best regards,
Elina

In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase, or you must already own the domain URL.
WordPress.com provides free blogs and free hosting for them. WordPress.com does not accept domain name transfers but mapping to an existing domain can be done.
Domain mapping of an existing domain URL that you already own and purchased elsewhere is not done free of charge. You will have to renew the domain name purchase where you made it and the domain mapping purchase here every year.
Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading
Mapping an existing domain costs $13. annually. In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from. If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.
See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.
I’ll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

futurecirucs.fi – does not seem to be registered, nor does it seem to be domain mapped
What do you see at
Dashboard >> Store >> My Upgrades ?
Dashboard >> Store >> Billing History? That domain name can be mapped here but I don’t think registered here – who is your Registrar?
-
I can see the following at My Upgrades:
Domain: futurecircus.fi
Domain Mapped to WordPress.comStatus: Active, Manual Renewal
This upgrade will expire in 12 month on 2.7.2015€11,00 EUR in year
And in billing history there is nothing seen. (but we have already payed the 11 euros, mentioned at Upgrades.)
avaruus.net is our registrar

Your first posting seems to had a spelling error – but there is domain mapping & registration – but the name servers don’t seem to be pointing to WordPress.COM – please check with your Registrar and see if something was not set correctly

spelling error – – – – – – – – – – – – futurecirucs.fiSometimes a zone record needs to be added manually by the staff for the name servers to be able to be changed and the domain mapping to work
-
Ok, well I managed to find out, that domains, which ends up with .fi are not able to handle by wordpress. I ask you now to delete our domain (futurecircus.fi ).
-
The domain should be able to be mapped to WordPress.COM – please wait for the staff to help

Hi there,
I just checked your domain, and it is properly mapped and working with your blog here: http://futurecircus.fi/
Are you still having trouble with it?
-
Hi,
Thank you for the answer. Our name server linked our sites in other way and that’s why them are visible now. The sites are still not working properly until our own domain (futurecircus.fi) is set under WordPress handling (Store -> My Domains -> futurecircus.fi -> edit domain (handled by WordPress)). That’s because of the domain ending (.fi), which can’t be hosted by wordpress or any other operative who don’t have the rights to host that domain, which is finnish legal domain. So, for to get our sites work properly, can you delete our own registered domain (futurecircus.fi) from My Domains but save the original one (futurecircus.wordpress.com) ? Did you get what I’m meaning? -
Hi there,
Thanks for explaining — now I see what you mean. You can remove the domain mapping upgrade from WordPress.com by having the user who purchased that upgrade log in and go to Store > My Upgrades in the blog’s dashboard:
https://futurecircus.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades
That user will see the link “Cancel and Refund” to cancel that upgrade and remove the domain futurecircus.fi from your account. (That won’t change your blog at its free address futurecircus.wordpress.com.)
If you’d like more help with that, please have the user who purchased the domain upgrade reply to this forum thread or contact us directly to confirm your request. I can then take care of this for you. :)
