    Hello there!

To recover your account please follow this support page instruction here: https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/

Let us know if that helps.

    Regards

  • Hi Volga,

It doesn’t look like the domain is connected to any WordPress.com sites. In fact, checking the DNS history, it was using our nameservers very briefly from October 6th to October 8th. It doesn’t look like there was any subscription for it, though.

That said, I think you might be looking for a site created with WordPress.org software but hosted on GoDaddy – we wouldn’t be able to help in this case. I’d suggest reaching out directly to GoDaddy.

If you’d like to create your site here, on WordPress.com, and connect your domain, you can follow these steps:

    https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/.

    @amirudra789
, before giving out instructions for WordPress.com, make sure the site is actually hosted here. If you’re not sure, feel free to leave the thread for staff to respond. Thanks!

We just recently recovered the domain name and at the beginning of October was me trying to point to WordPress hoping the site was hosted here and only to realize that it wasn’t. Is there a way to check to see before august time frame was there a site hosted here that can be recovered for a domain mentioned above ? I will also follow up with godaddy but they are not very helpful in divulging information as it was already painful recovering the domain name from them.

I sure hope I do t have to build it from scratch

Thank you in advance for your help

  • Hi Volga,

You can find historic DNS information for your domain here (you’ll need to register an account to view historic data):

    https://securitytrails.com/domain/washingtonengineer.org/history/a

Based on that your domain was initially pointed to https://www.westhost.com/ from September 2008 to December 2009. Then it was pointed to GoDaddy.com, and since August 2020 it has been pointed at Google’s site hosting service.

I also checked your domain in the Internet Archive:

    https://web.archive.org/web/20200511114219/http://washingtonengineer.org/

The latest complete snapshot I see of the site is from May 2020:

    https://web.archive.org/web/20200511114219/http://washingtonengineer.org/

Based on the historic DNS, your site was hosted by GoDaddy.com at that time.

A few months later, in October 2020, the domain was listed as for sale on auction with GoDaddy:

    https://web.archive.org/web/20201017030038/http://www.washingtonengineer.org/

This tells me the domain, expired at some point in 2020. I’m also guessing at some point in 2020 the site itself was transferred to Google’s hosting, and the Internet Archive does have some snapshots of your site from 2021, though they don’t show a complete site:

    https://web.archive.org/web/20210307031406/https://washingtonengineer.org/

Based on all this, most recently your site appears to have been hosted by Google, so you can try contacting them to find out if they still have your site’s files on their servers. Otherwise GoDaddy might also still have a backup somewhere from when the site was hosted on their servers, but as it’s been more than a year I wouldn’t hold my breath.

I hope this information gives you a bit more to work with :)

Good thing I refreshed! I’m a bit slow typing this morning, so will go make myself another cuppa. 😎

Thank you kindly that’s great stuff. Yea recently I pointed to a static page on google until I can try to recover the site if not. Will start from scratch. Is there any advantage godaddy hosted WordPress versus WordPress here ? I am really looking to use a lot of the add ons to push out society publishing to linked in and Instagram and Twitter etc. I am not sure what the difference of WordPress is ?

    Cheers

Wow is there a way get some of these archives downloaded or transferred so I can quickly restore ? That is the correct site as I looked at the links you provided

    You are correct

Hoping to see if there is a way to restore to that stage ? Is there a way ?

WordPress.com is a hosting platform much like GoDaddy. The only difference is that we specialize in WordPress hosting. As for WordPress, this is the software used to power all the sites hosted in all the different hosting providers.

Hoping to see if there is a way to restore to that stage ? Is there a way ?

The only way to restore this from an Internet Archive snapshot is to manually copy and paste your content from every post and page. I know that might be a lot of work, but if your previous hosting provider cannot give a backup of your site, then this is the only way.

Ok will cut and paste and see if I can restore , the formatting will be the harder part

As far as WordPress hosting is there add ins that are available more then go daddy ? My goal is for our organization to be able to push the content in WordPress to various social media sites so we don’t replicate the effort. Just curious if godaddy or WordPress hosting offer the same functionality ?

Thank you again for all your help so far

  • Hi there,

I’m not sure what you mean by “Add ins” do you possibly mean “plugins” which is a way to add functionality to WordPress sites similar to how you would add apps to your smartphone to give it more capabilities? Is there some specific you are looking for but have not found to date?

To expand on what @fstat stated above, there are some key differences in what we offer here vs what traditional hosts offers. The primary difference is that we are a fully managed service so we take care of technical stuff that is not easy or fun for site owners to manage like hosting configuration, optimizing performance and uptime, security, brute force protection, backups, automatic software updates (to keep your site secure) and in-house support for your questions. You can see from this thread we do not take that support lightly. :)

Traditional web hosts are a bit different in that they offer WordPress sites but they use the DIY version of the WordPress software that is free, open source, and offered without support. It’s the choice of web designers and developers, so it can feel pretty advanced if you are not an experienced WordPress user. Also, WordPress is just one of the many site platforms traditional hosts offer. Because of this they provide support for any hosting or server issues you have, but they are not expert in WordPress and do not typically provide in-house support for WordPress site issues.

You may have experienced this already with your host when you ask about site issues you are having and they are not able to help. Is that what brought you to our forums? If you are looking to get off the ground with a new site, we’re happy to help!
