Out of the blue, the WordPress editor started to insert div and span tags.

Again spurious div and span tags inserted into posts.

    See http://wiert.wordpress.com/wp-admin/revision.php?revision=20350

What I did to get at the left revision is write it in the “text” mode, then switch to the “wysiwig” mode, then publish the post.

I already used gist to work around the freaking sourcecode tag bugs, but that got hosed inside a div tag.
The line spacing got hosed by div tags.
Some information got hosed by span tags basically fixing the font size.

Please fix this, as it costs me way too much time to re-correct every couple of posts. I’m a paying customer, but this way you guys should starting to refund your customers as this has been going on for way too long.

Did you perhaps copy/paste text from a different application?

Note that it’s not guaranteed to appear the same when you copy the contents from Microsoft Word or a different application and paste it into WordPress.com editor.

    We recommend that you:

    * write directly to our editor
    * use either a plain text editor like TextEdit or Notepad then post to our editor
    * use a desktop client to post to WordPress (http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/ — including Word 2007 or newer via API)
    * use post by email feature (http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-by-email/)
