out with the old, in with the new!

I want to delete the entire contents on one wordpress site I own and manage, and transfer the contents from another wordpress site that I created onto that URL. I imported/exported XML as instructed, I think.
Question: Do I have to first clear the contents from the old site or will that automatically be done when the import happens? I don’t want to add to the existing site, just replace it.
maisonqb.wordpress.com > maisoncubi.wordpress.com
Thanks in advance.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Also, since I’m here… can anyone tell me how to get rid of the “Blog at WordPress.com. The Port Theme.” footer on my site?
I have upgraded to edit the CSS, but am fairly clueless as to what to delete and my feeble attempts to do so have yielded no changes whatsoever.

Hi!
First, I noticed you have opened a couple of support requests regarding this issue and reached out to our live chat folks. I’m going to close any additional forum threads with a link back to this one to simplify the convo. Please keep all additional correspondence here!

If you just import the new XML file, the content will just be added on top of the content currently on the site. If you would like to get rid of the content on the site now, you will want to first empty the site before importing the XML file. I’m happy to do this for you. Please note, however, that whatever site we empty will be completely emptied. That means all posts, categories, images, tags, etc will be erased.
Just reply back to confirm the WordPress.com site you would like emptied!

That text is required per our Terms of Service as mentioned here:
http://en.wordpress.com/tos/ (Specifically #11)
While it is possible to remove it via CSS, please keep it in place. Removal of the site attribution will result in your blog being inaccessible for both posting and editing.

Yes, please help me by deleting the existing site and all its contents at: maisoncubi.wordpress.com
and replacing it with the new site contents and theme from:
maisonqb.wordpress.com.Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

Hi!
I have erased the contents at maisoncubi.wordpress.com per your request.
To replace that (now empty) site with the content from maisonqb.wordpress.com, you’ll need to run an export/import following the instructions here:
You can transfer the upgrades currently associated with maisonqb.wordpress.com (including your domain) to maisoncubi.wordpress.com from your Upgrades page here:
https://maisonqb.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades
Here’s a bit more information:

Sorry, I’m a bit confused. I got this window:
Move Premium Theme: Port Upgrade
Before you transfer Port to another blog, you’ll first need to deactivate the theme from the original blog’s dashboard. Then reload this page and try the transfer. Note: theme options and settings will not transfer to the new blog.Do you mean deactivate “Suits” from maisoncubi.com or deactivate “Port” from maisonqb.wordpress.com? How do I deactivate “Suits” if I don’t have the theme “Port” available to switch to unless I pay for “Ports” again?

I got some support at goddaddy.com and they said rather than import everything over to the maisoncubi.wordpress.com they will do the mapping thing from their end, so i can just keep the theme and contents where they are now.
Thanks for all your help!

Just for future notice, this means that you cannot transfer a theme while it is still active on your site. You’ll need to enable a different theme to “free up” Port for transfer.

I’m not 100% certain I know what you mean by this. Could you clarify the domain name and then the WordPress.com blog you’re going to be using?
-
domain name: maisoncubi.com
should take viewers to my blog: maisonqb.wordpress.comthey said it should take upwards of 48 hours.
i hope it works. i didn’t want to recreate everything to match the site, importing images, changing text, testimonials, etc.
thanks!

Ah great! Thanks for clarifying. It looks like the domain is working now on my side. Can you confirm it’s working for you as well?
