Outdated Pages Show Up in Dashboard/Can’t Edit

I created a wordpress blog with pages (http://gordieyoung.wordpress.com/). Then I edited it heavily and redirected it to a url I own outside of wordpress (http://www.gordieyoung.com/). Everything was fine, but now I want to make some changes to (http://www.gordieyoung.com/), so I went to the wordpress dashboard to make adjustments. But all that comes up now is my old wordpress material (http://gordieyoung.wordpress.com/), which is all very old stuff that I already edited out. Very weird. I can’t find a way to get into my redirected URL and make changes. Does this make sense? Help!

I see an About page at your wp.com blog, even when clicking Home. From your self-hosted site, the Blogs link takes to me to blogspot.

If you are unable to access your dashboard on your self-hosted site, I think only your host can help you with that or you might try at wordpress.org/support if you’re using wp software.

If there’s an issue with your wp.com blog, could you be a bit more specific, please?

After a little more investigating, I’ve discovered that the problem may be that my wordpress blog is not showing the numerous changes I made to the blog months ago. In other words, my wordpress blog is the version of the blog that’s about three months or so old. I’ve since gone in and made numerous changes to the wordpress blog, then redirected visitors to my other URL. The other URL is up to date, but now the wordpress blog is suddenly the old version. Does that make sense?

The situation is more clear now, thank you, although I haven’t a clue why it happened. Here’s what perplexes me, though. You’ve moved your content to another site. Are you trying to keep the wp.com blog current with the other? If so, search engines will penalize you for duplicate content. Please enlighten me! This might require a support ticket.

Here’s all I wanted to do: Create a wordpress site primarily using pages because I like the ease of working with wordpress. But I don’t like having a wordpress url. So I bought a url (http://www.gordieyoung.com/) and planned to simply maintain the site via wordpress, but direct all traffic to the other url, which I bought through google apps. I’ve never maintained the site via google apps. I’ve always updated the site on wordpress. (So it’s not really a question of keeping the other site current with the wordpress site; the other site is the wordpress site with a different url.) but suddenly the changes I’ve made have disappeared from the wordpress site, and yet the google aps url is current. I’m not so concerned about google hits because this site is just a place where I can send people to see my work. sorry if this is unclear. It’s hard to explain. I thought it was pretty standard to maintain and update your wordpress site, but simply redirect traffic to a url of your choosing.

Gotcha now. What’s pretty standard is simply to buy the domain mapping upgrade here and have one site. Then, if you later wish to be self-hosted, the content is exported then imported into the new site without any further change of url at all.

Here’s information on domain mapping. I think you can point your domain to your wp.com blog – perhaps someone who is certain will be along:

Thanks for all your help. But I think I set this up all ready. And it doesn’t really explain how I could go into wordpress, update my site numerous times, have the changes show up in my other domain and in my wordpress dashboard, but then a month later have wordpress revert back to material that is about three months old, with no sign of the updated work…except on the other url. Very weird.
    Thanks again

No, it doesn’t, which is why I mentioned support a while earlier. It’s utterly baffling. Support’s open, the tab is in the upper right corner of your browser, so why not contact them and ask?

    I wish I had an answer but I don’t.
