Outside advertising is appearing on my blog without my approval
-
All of a sudden, when viewing my blog, I’m noticing ads inserted within my blog (right after post but before comments) by Sears, auto & credit card companies, etc. without my knowledge or approval. Is this something that I have to live with because my blog is free? Or is this something I can control or opt out of? It’s really detracting from my blog.
Thank you!The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You did approve it, in the Terms of Service.
However, you might be interetsted to know there are lots of threads on the topic in the Forum.
Here is one.

Thank you, teamoyeniyi, for your quick response!
LOL! With so much to read and tend to whilst setting up a blog, I guess I missed that, or given the long hours I’m up, forgot! ;-) Interestingly, I’ve been writing this blog since Feb. 2010 and never noticed the ads until today, which was a bit strange.
However, I’m not complaining, only verifying that no one was doing something they shouldn’t. Given the fabulous platform WordPress provides me, I certainly hope that they are getting some good compensation from those advertisers. I sing WP’s praises whenever possible and have recommended others use it.
When I have some extra funds available, I’ll certainly consider upgrading. Meanwhile, thank you for your service and answers.

WordPress.com has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read features page, or advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all. The only way to get rid of all advertising on our free hosted WordPress.com blogs is to purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade.
If you feel an ad is inappropriate please take a screenshot of it and send it to Staff by emailing support@wordpress.com or upload it into your Media Library and contact Staff and let them know it’s there for them to view.

Thank you, timethief, for your thorough response, which further explains why I hadn’t noticed the ads. I got it. As I said above, when I have some extra funds available, I will upgrade. Unfortunately, as a widow on a fixed pension in today’s economy, I don’t know when that will be. Certainly…once I win the lottery! ;-)
I’ve noticed you answer a lot of questions here, and for that, I’d like to express my appreciation–thank you for all you do!

I’m also a low income earner and I hear you loud and clear and I do hope that your financial situation improves soon. Thank you so much also for your kind words. :)
