outside vendor mapping?

Can an outside vendor map my domain name to a wordpress.com site, or must it only be mapped through wordpress.com?

Specifically I’d like my domain name which I purchased elsewhere to to replace my wordpress domain — eg domain.com instead of domain.wordpress.com.

I understand that wordpress will do this for a fee, but I still have a credit with my previous internet service company and can only utilize it with service, not a refund. So it would be extremely helpful if they can do this for me instead of wordpress.

Also, I’d love to transfer my domain to wordpress — or at least renew it through wordpress. Have either of these options become available yet, or must I keep renewing it through the same company that purchased it for me? (which is not the above service provider, btw, so that that doesn’t help me with the credit issue either).

    Thanks

Sorry an existing domain name registration can’t be transferred to WordPress.COM

The best way to use your outside domain name with your blog here is to domain map it – yes $ 13.– / year – no real way to do it from the outside – you could domain forward the traffic with the custom domain name to your site here – but then visitors see your WordPress.COM domain name – not the name they typed into their browser and your custom domain name never shows up in search engines much I am told
