Over 48 hours – domain not redirecting to blog
-
Hi,
I’ve got a blog: http://3companies.wordpress.com/
We bought a domain last Thursday – http://www.unison3companies.org (not through wordpress).
Changed the DNS settings on Plesk on Friday to those given in wordpress instructions ns1 ns2, ns3
On Monday we bought the domain mapping upgrade for $9 and mapped http://www.unison3companies.org
It is still giving a problem loading page – dns error message.
Should I be worried? Was hoping to get the address out this week . Any help appreciated :)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I wouldn’t worry untill tomorrow. Boost the thread if it’s not on the front page and I’ll check it again then.

Really! Wow – it’s still not working this morning, but guess I’ll wait till the end of the week to see if it works out.
Will come back to the forum on Monday if still not working. Thanks for your help :)

By doing a “whois” search at network solutions, http://www.networksolutions.com/whois-search/unison3companies.org , it shows your domain is pointing at
Name Server:DNS1.PHONECOOP.COM
Name Server:DNS2.PHONECOOP.COM
Name Server:DNS3.PHONECOOP.COMYou need to check the settings at your registrar and if it is still showing the above, you need to correct the name server settings and point them toward the wordpress.COM name servers.
-
Thanks – those were the original settings, but I changed them last Friday.
And they are def still showing the wordpress settings now.
-
Yea your nameservers are not showing up right in the whois lookup. I’m also seeing:
Name Server:DNS1.PHONECOOP.COM
Name Server:DNS2.PHONECOOP.COM
Name Server:DNS3.PHONECOOP.COM -
But they are correct in my dns settings with my host – I’ve checked myself (we use Plesk) . I changed them myself last Friday. So is it just that whois doesn’t realise it’s changed yet. Or do I need to do it all over again?
-
I hope this helps. This is what I found in support documentation >
Update your domain’s name servers to the following. Make sure to remove any existing name servers that are already there.
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

You need to contact your domain registrar and talk to them about it. The
whois searches look to the internet name server system which is the system that keeps track of where each domain is so that people’s browsers can get to the correct place. The internet name server system has not yet gotten, or not yet recorded the change. -
Hi timethief – I did that last Friday, and those are the settings according to my dns records – unfortunately still the old settings at whois.
Thanks thesacredpath. If nothing happens by tomorrow, I’m going to take your advice and contact our hosts – but don’t expect much help as the settings seem to be OK :(
-
Hi – well think it’s been resolved. My host says “The DNS servers in plesk cannot be changed – they are there for information only.”
So even though they look like they’ve been changed, they haven’t!
Host has updated the DNS as requested “but please bear in mind that we will no longer (or you via plesk) have any further control over that domain or its records”.
I guess once it’s transferred I’ll be changing any settings via wordpress.
Thanks very much to everyone who responded. Hope this helps someone else in future.

I’m confused. Who did you buy your domain name through? I’ve never heard of such a thing. According to whois, it is registered through Tucows Inc. and they should have a way to be able to change DNS records and such.
You need to contact them and find out who the domain is registered through since when it comes due for renewal you will need that information to pay for the renewal.
-
We have a webhost who buys the domains, and send us the bill! I guess they have purchased from Tucows. They have gone back and changed the DNS and everything works fine now.
We usually control DNS settings for domains via Plesk. According to web host this is not now possible with this domain, and they say they cannot do it either (though I believe CNAMEs, or even future transfers etc. can be done via wordpress). That’s all I know :)
