Overrun With Spam

  In the last few weeks the usual amount of SPAM on my blog has tripled – or quadrupled! Fortunately Askismet directs spam to my SPAM folder but this morning I deleted almost 400 spam comments from OVERNIGHT. Most are from various ‘users’ at ssemarketing.net (whatever THAT is!). I appreciate Akismet not letting these get into my comments and be public but what is causing such a HUGE amount of JUNK???? Thanks!

  Hi there,

  If the comments are going to the spam folder, then the spam filters are working the way they’re supposed to. Spam is automatically removed from that folder after 30 days, so there is no need for you to delete any of those manually.

  Spam tends to come in waves, so it’s completely normal to suddenly see such an influx of spam comments from time to time. It will soon disappear again as the spammers move on to their next potential target.

  Thanks for the feedback……I am glad the spam is being caught but it was concerning that the volume had increased so drastically. BUT knowing it will automatically be removed after 30 days is GREAT to know! I’ll stop spending time doing that every morning. I hope whoever this is moves on soon although I don’t like wishing a nuisance on anyone else!
