Own domain and wordpress.com URL?
-
If I get my own domain name (http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/) will my blog still be available over blog-name.wordpress.com URL? How will Google treat new domain name? Should I totally forget about blog-name.wordpress.com URL and concentrate only on domain.com URL (regarding Google and other search engines)? What will happen to current posts? Lot of questions… :)

I found the whole operation seamless, and made no changes at all. Google has been very friendly, and quotes the new domain. My blog is still available at http://bigdave44.wordpress.com and you will find that your admin still uses the original domain.
I’m sure someone more technical can explain why, but it all worked well for me.

It will take 6 months or more to regain your page rank, not to be picked up by Google. My self-hosted blog was picked up by Google within a day after it went live.
You need to verify the new domain/blog using Google webmaster tools right away, and also get a sitemap up for the search engines to use. At wordpress.ORG/extend/plugins/ you need to search for “google XML sitemap” and download and install the plugin that creates your sitemap automatically for the search engines to use, and let Google know where that is in the webmaster tools section.
