Own Domain or More Space

My blog seems to be at a crossroads. It needs some refreshing.
I recently received a warning that I am approaching the limit of the free memory that comes with a WP blog. MY question is should I purchase more memory or purchase my own domain through WP? If I purchase my own domain, will that also address the memory issue?
Also, should I purchase an upgraded theme — and how can I choose which theme would work best. Is there a way to test drive them without disrupting my current blog.

No. All that changes is the URLs and nothing else.
But if you purchase a Premium upgrade bundle a space upgrade is included in the bundle. Premium bundle details http://store.wordpress.com/plans/premium/

If you purchase a premium theme you have a 30 day period to test it and request a refund in. See here for details on premium theme purchases http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/premium-themes/ Know that no premium themes are included in the Premium upgrade bundle.
If you do not like the theme, provided you are logged in under the same username account that purchased the upgrades, you can request a refund from your dashboard > Store > My Upgrades
There is also where you can click the “disable auto-renew” link.WordPress.com provides a 30-day refund on all upgrades except Domain Registrations, Domain Renewals, and Guided Transfers.
