own domain questions

Hi
I’d like to give my blog its own domain, but have two questions.1) I’d like to ask though if I can do that with a new username, but keep all the old posts.
2) If I leave it on wordpress servers, what sort of access do I get to it. Is it via FTP? Do I get access to ALL files, just as if it were on a third-party hosting space? I’m not technically advanced btw, so apologies if that’s a weird question.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

1) You can set up a new user name and add the new user to the old blog then edit the author for each Post / Page or transfer the old blog to the new name. Either way the old Posts stay unless you delete them.
2) Nothing changes other than the name shown in the Browser for your visitors – same terms of Service and same everything – but no FTP access or the ability to hack the files – since you are not technically advanced no being able to hack the base code is a good thing I think.

Thing is, I distinctly remember it NOT being possible to transfer ownership of the old blog to a new username? Maybe I misunderstood, or things have changed?
I don’t want to hack the original files exactly, I just want to be able to be able to add an Instagram gallery in the margin of my blog. But it’s not offered as far as I can tell in coraline. Would it be possible if I got my own domain? Or would I have to put it on my own server for such things to work?

Blogs can be transferred to others (even if you are the same person just a different name) – takes a couple of extra steps but the instructions don’t seem to be too bad. Or you can just add the new user to the blog and just log-in as the new user.
A custom domain name is just the name – no other changes – ALL upgrades are exactly what they spell out no more no less.
As to the Instagram Gallery – I have not a clue what it is or if there is a workaround for that – others would need to answer that – what exactly does it do?

ok, I asked him and he says the Instagram gallery came via a plug in. Can I do plug-ins with my basic version? Which upgrade do I need for that?

There is no upgrade (short of the VIP program that starts at $ 20,000/year) that lets you use a Plug-in.
Maybe one of the other volunteers will have a suggestion or workaround for you – I can’t even guess at what to suggest for you.
