Own Domains already – How to link to WordPress? Themes

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I own two domain names, which I brought with GoDaddy a while ago. I would like to know two things:

    A) How do I go about linking/mapping my domains to WordPress, so I can use those names and have the ease of creating websites with WordPress?

    B) I have looked for a way to upload my own website themes, but cannot. Is this because I am a free account currently? I am trying to get a lot done for free currently, to test out WordPress, but am unable to find this.

    Regards,

    James

    Hello!

This post should help you through the process: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Follow the instructions listed there, and it’ll help you map your .com address to your WordPress blog :)

In regards to custom themes, WordPress.com sites can’t use any themes from outside sources. However, there’s a great selection available to you through the ‘Themes’ option. Hope that helps.

Thank you that is really helpful! In regards to having/not having custom themes could you just check out this link – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jPu6AO5CuA
Can you explain to me why it is not possible to have a custom theme? Did they disable this functionality? If so then I am feeling reluctant to use WordPress.

    No problem :)

Using custom themes from other sources is a feature within WordPress.org sites, not WordPress.com. If you’re really set on that option, I’d suggest looking into creating your blog there instead.
