owner has no conact information and has no access.

Before my time, a few years ago, our domain and website was separated from another account but has never been successfully transferred.
The owner is @qcvga, but has no email associated. Site contact email was updated a year ago by another admin (took weeks to get done), who has since requested that his WP admin ID be removed. This appears to be a continuing repetative issue…
We need to renew our domain by Oct 4th, but I am getting no response or help from WordPress.com support. It appears human support is non-existent now that they implemented AI assistant.
Other than creating an entirely new Website and a totally new Domain and copying the existing to the new, is anyone able to give me a more pallateable solution? P.L.E.A.S.E….

Hi @kencecotti,
I’m just a volunteer community member (not WordPress.com staff), but I can share some guidance.
Domain renewals and ownership transfers always require access to the WordPress.com account that purchased the domain. If the current account (@qcvga) has no valid email address or no one can log into it, then only WordPress.com staff can help recover it community members can’t fix ownership or billing issues.
Here are some steps you can take:
- Go to this page while logged into any WordPress.com account: Account Recovery Form
→ Use it to explain that the domain was purchased under another account, and attach proof of payment/ownership (receipts, bank/credit card statement, etc.). - If you can provide billing info from when the domain was purchased (card details, transaction ID, PayPal invoice), staff can usually verify and help reconnect the domain to the right account.
- Without verified proof of ownership, WordPress.com cannot transfer access this is a security measure to protect domains.
Unfortunately, if you cannot recover access before October 4 (expiry date), the domain could lapse. If that happens, it may enter a grace period (where the original owner can still renew), then a redemption period (where recovery costs extra). Details here: Domain Expiration and Renewal.
My best advice: submit the recovery form ASAP with as much ownership proof as you have, so staff can step in before the renewal deadline.
