Oxygen: cropping front page images (NOT static page mode)

How to i get access to edit the preview photos used on the front page of my blog (spectrumofhopeproject.wordpress.com). I’m not interested in using a static front page or having a showcase template. I insert photos into all my blogs, so on the front page, it shows a snippet of that photo in the preview of the blog. The problem is it’s showing a very inconvenient snippet of the photo. I’d like to crop it manually, but i don’t know how to edit anything on the front page. I could have sworn i had cropped a couple of the preview snippets before, but now it seems i’ve lost the touch.

I should also specify: neither am i talking about the header image. i know where to crop that. thanks.

Ah. I was thinking “thumbnails” was a term reserved for smaller images. Even if i had found it in the forum (which i may have after scouring it for over an hour), i probably wouldn’t have recognized it as the term to which i was unknowingly referring in my query since these preview images seem larger than a traditional “thumbnail” size. Maybe “crop” is not the right word, either. Can i “reposition” the thumbnails as one would a cover photo on Facebook? They’ve never been editable? Again, i swear for previous posts i was able to do so, like for the thumbnails for the “It’s all about context” and “Without overflow, i drown” posts, for example. I just can’t remember how i did it. Maybe i’m going crazy.

Lame. Wouldn’t think it’d be so difficult to make something so essential to the front page a little more aesthetic.

I’m sorry but my understanding is that this cannot be done. I’m also aware that if you fail to upload a featured image what will display is a gray colored box.

Sticky post thumbnails are 750 pixels wide in the featured slider.
Regular post thumbnails are 470 pixels wide and cannot be cropped.If you fail to upload and set a featured image in each post the gray box will be there.
Maybe you ought to try using a different theme.

I just encountered the same problem when trying out this theme. It cropped the image, but it is a horrible crop, and it needs to be repositioned. It’s hard to believe that we cannot reposition the cropped image. We’re just stuck with whatever it gives us. It’s such a nice theme. Sad that is has that one fatal flaw.
