Oxygen Theme: post excerpt in slider?

  Hi there,

  (Sorry, we just posted this in the Themes forum, but perhaps this one is more relevant…)
  We’re trying to find out whether it is possible to show article excerpts in the showcase page slider in Oxygen? We have upgraded and have CSS access, but question whether this is an option that can be solved with CSS.

  Additionally, would anyone know if it is possible to add another bar (like ‘recent articles’ and ‘more articles’) above the slider, to highlight that the slider shows the ‘latest articles’?

  No, you can’t add functionality. CSS is a styling document only.

  You can however add some text above the slider in a couple of different ways. The first, using a little CSS trick, is a little limited in the ability to style it. Add this to your custom CSS and it will put some text right above the left end of the slider You can play with the various declarations I’ve included.

  #content-wrap:before {
      content: "Recent Articles";
      font-size: 140%;
      font-weight: bold;
      color: #CC0000;
  }

  The second way would be to put the text into a text widget and move that up and above the slider, however this gets seriously messy with a responsive theme design, such as the one you are using. The first solution works with the responsive design and doesn’t blow up on narrower browser windows and devices.

  Thanks very much! We had a bit of a play around to get it to match the other headlines on the front page.
  Is there a way to change the font to match?

  I see what you mean about the responsive settings and messiness! We’ve had some trouble with the ‘more articles’ section on the front page, which tends to look garbled/overlapping on pcs but fine on tablet.

  Sure you can change the font. This is the font stack that is used for the navigation, but you can change it as you desire. Add this to the rule you’ve created.

  font-family: ronnia-condensed-1,ronnia-condensed-2,"Abel","Helvetica Neue",Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;

  The new text you’ve added is set as bold, and the text in the menus is not. You might try going back to a normal weight and see if that looks better.

  Or find the font stack for the font you want and change to that.
