Oxygen theme — would be nice if we could exclude stickies from the "posts page"

I realize this isn’t possible, but it would be so nice if we could exclude the sticky posts from our “posts page” — the page that is set to show all recent blog posts, most recent first. I say this, because the sticky feature is used to assign images to the scrolling slider marquee on the static front page, but the side effect of this is (up to 6) sticky posts taking up the entire beginning of a posts page, if we choose to use one. It would be so very nice if we could either exclude the sticky posts from the posts page (which, yes, I know is unintuitive, and completely backward from the purpose of sticky posts) OR if there were another way to designate images for the static page’s scrolling slider marquee! I am in love with this theme other than this one drawback, but it is significant, in my mind, as it renders a posts page entirely pointless. IF anyone knows of a way around this at all, or ideas on how to render a posts page meaningful while using the scrolling marquee, I would be very appreciative. Thank you!

The posts slider showcases up to six featured posts. These can be your most recent posts or some other important posts. If they are your most recent posts, you’ve got no problem. If they aren’t your most recent posts, you can’t exclude them from the main posts page except if you have the Custom Design upgrade.
Since the showcase front displays featured posts plus “recent articles” plus “more articles”, what do you need a main posts page for?

The reason I would like to have a main posts page is simply because I would like the ability to choose to display the “full text” of the recent articles, rather than a summary. If this setting (which I CAN control on a posts page) also applied to the showcase front page, then I would be completely happy with that. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still happy with the theme, it is amazing, it is just not absolutely 100% exactly what I was trying to accomplish. ( Secondarily, I would like the ability to control how many recent articles are displayed, but this is less of an issue than having the full text instead of a summary.)

The way I’m using the slider, by the way, the featured posts are not going to be my most recent ones.

    a) There’s no setting for full post vs summary on the posts page. The one you’ve probably seen in Settings > Reading is for your feed, not for your posts page.
    b) You can replace auto excerpts with custom excerpts. This applies to the posts page as well as category and other archive pages as well as the “recent articles” section.
Custom excerpts can be as long as you like. You create a custom excerpt in the Excerpt module of the post editor. If you don’t see the module while editing a post, click Screen Options (top right) and check “Excerpt”.
    c) Sticky posts show on top of more recent ones on the main posts page but not on category pages. So you can link to those pages instead of the main posts page.

I’m still soaking this in and making sure I understand, but this sounds EXTREMELY helpful and promising! Thank you so much for your time and direction, it is greatly appreciated!

I am so grateful! I had missed the “custom excerpts” feature entirely, and my blog is transformed to be exactly what I had envisioned. Thank you so very much for your help!

    You’re welcome!
Your blog is set to private, so I cannot see what you’ve done, so I’m noting this just in case: you can copy all the content from the Text (=code) editor and paste it into the Excerpt module; this will give you (almost) full posts – complete with their formatting, links and images. Exception: custom excerpts cannot display objects inserted via URL or shortcode (videos, audio players etc).

I did notice that worked, and was thrilled! The blog will be public eventually, I have just left it private while setting it up and working out the kinks. Please check it out, if you think of it, in a few days. :) Thank you again!

I know this is a separate Oxygen issue, but I’m wondering if there is any way at all to remove the post date from the static Showcase Page image slider? Even better: remove post date AND post title from the image slider? Without doing the custom design route, of course. I feel reasonably sure there isn’t a way, but then I had previously felt sure I couldn’t make the entire post content show up, and you showed me the light. Thanks again. :)

@leeese: No, you can’t remove them if you don’t have the upgrade.
