P2 theme, allow other users to start or initiate discussion thread

I love the idea of the P2 theme. I imagined that if there were other worpress.com users in our international group, I could invite them to be ‘contributors’ to the site and then they’d see the front-end box to initiate a thread. Before I invite my gang to use the site that I’ve set up, I want to be sure it is working.

I invited another wp.com account of mine to be a contributor… but with that account the only way that I can initiate a thread is to go into the site and create a new post in the back-end. (Sorry about this front-end / back-end stuff, I know that it is terminology that was created for Joomla! The P2 theme sort-of requires it.)

At the front end, I can comment, but I cannot initiate a threat. Right now it seems that only as site admin can I do that. I would like all contributors to be able to do that.

So, I must be missing some way to turn on that feature. If you know how, I’d appreciate learning about it.

The site is here: http://governancecorporation.wordpress.com and during the setup will be visible to the public. That will likely change.

    Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I meant: initiate a ‘thread’ not initiate a threat. (Was that Freudian?)

Please read these two support entries as after you do I think you will clearly understand how this works. Unless the people in question do have wordpress.com accounts (blogs are not required) and you have made them officially users of the blog they cannot post “threads”.

If the foregoing was not the case then anyone who located your blog could post “threads” rather than being able to submit comments. Just imagine what a spamfest that could lead to.

Many thanks timethief! I upgraded that other account of mine to ‘Author’ on the P2 site and for that account the ‘front-end’ box to start a conversation appeared. From the link you gave I can see that a ‘contributor’ can write and edit but not actually publish.

And yes, I had already advised my folks that they will have to obtain wordpress.com accounts. (I think everyone who thinks and can write should anyhow.)

    Best wishes… Robert

Thanks for letting us know how you resolved this. I also agree with the statement you made in the parentheses. Happy blogging. :)
