P2 theme or status type plugin for any theme

Hi,
I really like the P2 idead but not theme. I know my blog uses a pretty old theme now (lightword), but I was wondering if there are any plugins that could produce similar functionality to the p2 theme? Something that could be installed to any theme.
I’d like an option between status (twitter) or post. The status (twitter) something I could post to my blog and it also heads to twitter ideally. The post just a standard wp blog post. Any ideas if there is something that already does this?

Automattic is currently working on a new plugin that will eventually allow you to bring p2-like functionality to every theme, but right now it’s at an early stage and I don’t have an ETA on when it’ll be available. You can sign up for updates here:
You could also fork p2 and create your own version, or create a child theme, but you’d need some development skills for that. For example, take a look at the Houston child theme:
