Padding Around images

  I am using WordPress 6.0.1 when I create a post containing images no matter if left or right aligned I am getting no padding so the text butts straight up against the image. I have searched for settings to adjust this but can find nothing.
  Is there something I am missing or is this how it is supposed to work now?
