Padlet Embeds Work But Not Documentted

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve been asked for my outside of WordPress.com development work an easy to embed Padlet.com content from a content URL (w/o copying embed code). I notice on the Padlet.com site that it says this is supported on WordPress.com but not self-hosted.

There is no mention of this anywhere in the WordPress.com documentation on embeds. But sure enough, it works

    Padlets Embed Here?

Lots of people asked for it for years
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/search/padlet/

It is here, why not let people know?

And are there more services supported here (yet the list seems incomplete) not available to sites running under WP.org code? Even with JetPack enabled shouldn’t these services be available?

I’m actually looking for the wp_embed_register_handler code I can compare to my own that is not working.

  • There are definitely many more embeds available under the self-hosted WordPress.org software, this is to maintain the security of this shared environment: https://en.support.wordpress.com/code/

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: https://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

I’ve been using and developing in WordPress since 2003 and was an early tester of WP.com so I do know the differences.

    My point is:

Embeds of Padlet is definitely supported on WordPress.com- here is their own announcement https://padlet.com/support/embedding_wordpress yet there is nothing on WordPress.com that lets users know. I was just pointing out a gap in your documentation.

Or if WP.com supports so many that it cannot list them, well that seems odd Why not provide this information?

  • We have no formal relationship with Padlet, and we haven’t had an embed for them here.

Perhaps they meant to refer to WordPress.org instead.

Actually no. Under the share options for padlet.com content, it clearly states that url auto embeds are an option for WordPress.com

You can see that here https://padlet.com/cogdogblog/aos9fosbbwk4

Or better yet, try a WordPress.com site, and enter that URL directly in the editor– it automatically embeds, this is what I did to discover this feature here

    Padlets Embed Here?

If WordPress.com does not support embeds of padlet content how exactly would it be embedded there? It says to me the padlet has been added as an oembed provider.

Not causing trouble just following up on my own investigations.

  • Hm, interesting. I’ll pass this along to our developers to see if we missed something.

    Thanks for pointing this out!
