Page Attributes
-
Hello. I am looking to put in page attributes for my pages but it seems that it doesn’t allow me to type anything in the ‘settings’ side bar. Does my site need to be published in order to do this?
In addition, I do not see a way to include tabs on my pages. Can you point me to the right direction? Thanks,
Theresa

Hi there!
Hello. I am looking to put in page attributes for my pages but it seems that it doesn’t allow me to type anything in the ‘settings’ side bar. Does my site need to be published in order to do this?
Did you want to set a page as ‘parent’ from the page attributes section? If yes, then yes, the page you want to set as a parent needs to be published first. I see that all of your pages are in draft right now. You’d want to publish the page first before that page will appear in the page attributes section for you to set as a parent of another page.
In addition, I do not see a way to include tabs on my pages. Can you point me to the right direction?
When you say ‘tabs on my pages,’ did you mean something on individual pages or a menu across the top of all pages like in the demo site of the Morden theme?
Assuming you’re referring to the menu across the top, you’ll first need to publish the pages that you want to add to the menu. Once you’ve published the pages that you want to add to your site’s menu, you can follow the instructions here to create a new menu and add the pages that you want displayed in the menu area of your site: https://wordpress.com/support/menus/
Let us know if you have more questions.

Hello A.I.,
Thanks for your prompt response. That helps. I didn’t mean to write “tabs,” I meant “tags.” I don’t have a paid version of wordpress and am wondering if this is possible with a free WP account.
I do want to ask for some more feedback. When do you use posts vs. pages? If you publish a page, and then use tags, would you be able to create posts and include tags as well?Thank you,
Theresa

Hi Theresa,
I do not see a way to include [tags] on my pages.
Some themes allow tags on pages, but not many of them. I believe those that do are limited to themes that have an optional Featured Content area. However, not all themes that have a Featured Content area allow pages to be tagged. In the following filtered list at the Themes Showcase, I found that all except Altofocus and Rebalance allow tags on pages: https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/featured-content-with-pages.am wondering if this is possible with a free WP account
Yes, on a free account it’s possible, as long as you use one of themes that allow tags on pages. When do you use posts vs. pages?
The Post vs. Page support page addresses that question. If you publish a page, and then use tags, would you be able to create posts and include tags as well?

Pages don’t support tags. You can only use them on posts.

Have a read at the article linked below to understand the differences between posts and pages and what you use in each case.
