page break doesn't work on page

  I want to split a page (2400 words) into smaller pages.
  But using <!‐‐nextpage‐‐> in the midst doesn’t work. As soon as I update the page, the tag <!‐‐nextpage‐‐> disappears and no page breaks are achieved.
  Please suggest the solution.
