Page Categories Gone

  Apparently I haven’t been paying close enough attention, but I just suddenly noticed that pages no longer have categories or tags associated with them. I’ve even eliminated my workaround that kept them from showing up as uncategorized. I have a feeling that this was one of those Easter eggs thrown in last month. Anyway, whenever it happened, thanks. That was a very annoying thing that I, for one, am glad to be rid of.

  You haven’t changed your theme lately, have you? I think I remember that some themes display categories on pages while some do not but I could be wrong.

  That could be it. I went from “Silver is the New Black” to “Regulus.”

  Pages do not have categories enabled for that, and there’s no need too. The pages are supposed to be separate, not like a post, so a category is not needed.

  Agreed but some WP themes display them anyway. I think that’s what PTV’s point was that he was happy to get rid of the reference since they’re not used. :)

  First, I suggest that you take the Categories/Tags widgets out of your sidebar. Then I believe that you can make the changes on individual posts on the Manage page, although I believe you have to do it one at a time.

  I would very much like to be able to add categories to my pages.
  I use my blog as a training site with members sharing input and ideas.
  Having a way to categorize their posts, even on sub pages, would be quite useful.
  Suggestions?

  Pages cannot be tagged or categorized, only posts can. If you assign appropriate categories to each of the authors posts (say by name or something similar) then your visitors can click on that particular category (in the category widget) and it will bring up posts only in that category (author, idea, etc.).
