page design…very lost
-
Hi! i am brand new to blogging and my blog look/feel is awful…I need help with designing the page, headers, footers, privacy statements, photos for background and articles, Google Search insertion and so on. Reading is like a Pandora’s Box of twists and turns. I seem to get absolutely nowhere with all of this information and really need help to spend my time for wisely. Someone might be willing to help?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I suggest if you haven’t purchased the CSS upgrade yet, you don’t. Wait until you’ve learned it before buying the upgrade.

My limited experience has taught me that choosing a theme right for your blog is very important. Whilst you might want to change the header, footer, background etc. this may not at all be possible depending on which theme you have chosen! (unless you want to start working on the CSS).Find your ‘appeareance’ tab and see what options you have there. If nothing about your header is mentioned, you probably won’t be able to change it that easily.

thanks for the feedback; this is really not going to be that easy; i still scratch my head when folks say it is so easy…hmmmm

Don’t believe them. It’s particularly complicated at WordPress.com.
In addition to the CSS coding, you have to be a designer who already knows what she wants to get accomplished. Unless you can do a better job than the people who’ve already designed our 80 or so free themes, don’t take that task on.

Ok, good advice…;-) Do I have to have WordPress.org vs. .com in order to download the All-in-one SEO and Google Sitemaps plug-ins? I am wanting to do this, but have hit a brick wall, as usual.

Yes.
If you’re a complete beginner, it’s better to tell us SPECIFICALLY what you want to do, rather than “I want this plugin”. What do you want to accomplish by using the plugin?
For instance, if you have a WordPress.com blog and use tags and categories correctly, you will already have FAR more SEO than any plugin or combination of plugins can give you.

@smfierro
That’s correct. There is no FTP access to wordpress.com blogs. We cannot uplaod themes, plugins or anything else into them. The only themes we can use are located here > Appearance > ThemesWe cannot edit the templates underlying our themes and there are some codes we cannot use either.
