  How to make posts appear as snapshots (or previews) on the home page, instead of fully listed in reverse chronological order? We don’t want our entire post to pop up on the home page but instead it to be a collage of all our posts.

  Hey there!

  You can give the More Tag a try:
  http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

  It “breaks” the page text so that the Front Page will show a “Continue Reading…” link where the break is.

  You might also be interested in setting your Front Page as a Portfolio showcase:
  http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/illustratr/ (see “Portfolio Page Template”)

  This will look just like the Illustratr Demo on:
  http://illustratrdemo.wordpress.com/

  Portfolios are different from Posts, although they have very similar features:
  http://en.support.wordpress.com/portfolios/

  Portfolio items are also ordered by their creation date (remember that you can change the creation date when posting to anything, even past and future times), which sounds like something you were also looking for.

  Note though, that Portfolio items are not “published” like Posts, so they won’t appear on your Feed, or in the WordPress.com Reader for your followers.
