Page does not display correctly

I have two blogs. One displays with normal sized text. The other displays with tiny, hard to read text (but only to me… everyone else can see it fine). Does anyone know how I can fix this?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No one can tell until you give us some links starting with http://
We can’t see what you are talking about at this point!!!!
So what are the blogs?

• Unknown's avatar

I can’t show you the blog with the small text, because it has access restricted to just my friends. But here is a screenshot of it.

I have always had that style, and the text only went small like that recently, after I hit a button on the dashboard (no, I don’t know what button it was).

Sorry, no screenshot joy with that link.
Perhaps another volunteer will know more. Sorry.

What is your other blog?

A screen shot really doesn’t do any good anyway. We have to be able to view the source code.

If you have experience with HTML, then you can switch to HTML view in the editor and go through each post and remove all of the font tags that set the smaller font.

If you don’t know HTML, then my suggestion would be to contact staff and see if they will go through and fix it or tell you what needs fixed. They have access to your blog.

The only other thing is the “nuclear option” which would remove ALL formatting from the posts. That would fix it, but it could also mean going back and adding in a whole bunch of formatting you don’t want removed.

Also this is just a suggestion which comes from experience, but again since we cannot see the blog we don’t know: Do not paste from MS word or other programs such as that. It brings in all sorts of code that can really mess up a blog quickly.

Ok, I enabled access. I’ll turn it back off tomorrow morning. Hopefully, that will give someone time to look at it and figure out what is wrong.

Wait, one other suggestion short of the nuclear option. Open one of the messed up posts and on the lower row of formatting icons at the top of the text window, you will see a pulldown. Place your cursor into the text somewhere that it is messed up and see what it says on the pulldown. If it says preformatted, or something like header 4 or 5 then that is the problem. Select everything in the post and then go to that pulldown and select “pagagraph” and everything should change. Then click the “update post” button and go back to the blog and view the post.

OK, your second and fourth posts were copied from MS Word, which is causing the issues I think. Open those posts for edit select all the text in the post, and then click the “remove formatting button on the lower toolbar. The third post has some strange formatting as well but it doesn’t look like Word, so do the same thing with that.

If you are going to write in Word, then use the “paste from word icon. click it, then paste in the stuff from word in the window that pops up, then click the “insert” button. That will strip out the offending code.

Also if you copy and paste something from the web, use the “paste as plain text” button right beside the “paste from Word button. It works the same way.

There is also some Word stuff in the post “backstabbing…” at the end… the stuff that starts with the time stamps.

On the second page of posts I see some stuff pasted from word as well. Same fix applies for anything you have pasted from MS Word.

If you want, go ahead and make it private again, and then if you have problems you can make it public again later.

• Unknown's avatar

Ok, I did that, and it looks exactly the same to me. I don’t think you guys see what I see. The print is TINY, like maybe an 6 or 8 point font.

• Unknown's avatar

In Firefox 3 and Safari 3 on Mac, the font sizes look normal to me. What browser are you using?

• Unknown's avatar

Oh, wait a minute, it could be a browser setting. Go to the view menu and make sure things are set to “normal” size for text.

Even in dashboard, the print is very small.

• Unknown's avatar

OK, then it is most likely a browser setting. Go to the view menu then to “zoom” and then click “reset.”

Woot woot *grabs thesacredpath and dances with him* I reset the view on my browser, and that fixed it! Thank you so much! My eyes thank you toooo!

• Unknown's avatar

You’re very welcome and I like dancing although I’m not that good at it.

And keep what I said in mind when pasting from MS Word so that it doesn’t catch you up in the future.

I will :) Thank you again :D
