Page Formatting

Hello, at my blog http://orcshallconference.wordpress.com I use individual pages to display league tables that I copy and paste from Microsoft Excel 2007. The formatting that normally copies over has suddenly stopped.

For example, tab F North includes this formatting (I haven’t updated it so I can show you), but tab OHC has lost the formatting after an update yesterday and today.

How can I ensure the table formatting is included in the copy and paste as before?

    Thanks.

I suggest you download and use the table feature in Windows Live Writer. MS Office products don’t speak web an bring in all sorts of nasty code that messes up wordpress and typically at some point will kill your blog.

WLW will build web-compliant tables for you and it is a free download. I don’t know if it yet supports pages, but you would be able to switch to code view and then copy and paste the compliant code into the WP editor.

I forgot to mention that WP has been automatically stripping out MS Word code, and I wondered when they would get around to stripping out Excel.

Thanks Mr SacredPath, I use excel to calculate the league tables automatically, does LiveWriter incorporate all the equations and functions I use in the tables? (Sorry for being a dunce!)

Without knowing exactly what you use, it’s hard to say. I’d suggest you download and try it; it’s free, and I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. And since Microsoft developed it, it’s likely compatible with Excel.

Once you copy and paste a table, unless you paste it into another Excel document, the formulas do not transfer over, only the calculated values, so even if you could copy and paste the excel stuff into a post, the formulas would not be there, only the calculated values.

You can do the tables in Excel and as I understand it, you can paste into WLW and it will format it as an HTML table. Again, on cells with formulas, only the calculated value is put into the table, not the formula. The web doesn’t know what to do with an excel formula.
