Page is Black

I am having a terrible time here. I am trying to use a custom header template but no matter which template I use, the surrounding area is black. How do I get that to stop? It happens with everything, whether I change the header or now, if I keep the original. All I want is for the template to look like it does in the preview except with my custom header. What am I doing wrong??? And yes, it is a wordpress.com blog. My wordpress.org theme works perfectly! Go figure…

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

We need a link to the blog you are talking about. We cannot help if we cannot see it.

I’m sorry! *was so frustrated, forgot link*

Even if I use the template as it is, without adding my own header, it’s still black.

    Thank you so much. :)

The black line is your header, which you have set to a height of only 5px. When I expand it to 150px (too large, of course, I was just testing) I see the title of your blog in white and a tagline (I think, I can’t read it) in red.

Without modifications, the template does not have the black line. Since you’ve enountered this before you have much, if any, content it’s probably easier just to start over with the default style sheet.

I’m not so worried about the black line. It’s the surrounding area outside the blog, and the search box, anything that doesn’t have a solid template in front of it. I don’t know how to explain it well. It’s like I stuck the template on a black page and any ‘holes’ in the template are also black.

I’m sorry. I really am so frustrated! *sigh*

It is on a black (sort of) page. You’ve changed the background to #070707.

I still think you should just start over. You haven’t made many changes ard you’re not happy with the ones you have made.

Have you read any of the excellent tutorials linked to in the stickies here in the CSS forum?

Oh, btw, please link your wordpress.com blog to your username instead of the site you have there now. It will make life easier for you and for us.

I understand the frustration, but CSS is loads of fun once it all begins to make sense.

I think you’re right. I’ll just start over. Sorry about the wrong site addy. I put that in when I first started and intended to change it when this blog was up and running. It’s changed now. :)

And you know, I didn’t change the background color at all! I only uploaded the header image and changed the header line size. I hit submit and then looked at the site and it was black. I’m between beginning and intermediate level I guess on the CSS and am learning every day. Unfortunately, I can’t change things here like I can on my wordpress.org site.

Thanks so much for your help. :D I’m starting over.

Well, I started over. I had to paste in the CSS for the default WP theme before I could get rid of that black…grrrrrrrrr

Anyway, thank you again, so much for your help :)

I take that back. Now I’m not getting any image, even the original.

I think I’m about ready to give up.

You’re welcome. Have fun with it.

Are you going to stay with the default theme? Each theme’s style sheet is different and specific to that theme, so if you’re going to be using Misty, switch back to it and restore the original style sheet if need be and go from there.

Figured it out on how to get the original back! Now let’s see if I can change it. If not, maybe I’ll just keep the original…

I looked for how to restore the original style sheet, didn’t see anything.

I see you got it sorted out now. Enjoy.
