Page jumps still disabled when using visual vs. text editor
-
At least a couple years ago I found out that using the visual mode in my WP editor would wipe out all my saved page jumps in that post.
When this just recently happened to me again, it seemed that simply opening a post in the visual editor instead of the text editor disables any page jumps, really a pain to either have to go in and add them all again, or try to revert to the earlier saved version of the post.
My blog is mostly informative/ tutorial-based, and I do as much or more editing and improving earlier posts as I do making new ones, am always tinkering in editing mode. I long ago resigned myself to only using the text editor, but still wish I could use the visual editor occasionally. Yet even after all this time, this issue isn’t fixed at least not in the classic (old) editor which I still use.
(That’s yet another issue to me – I dislike the ‘improved’ editor for many reasons, but I would be very interested to know if this page-jump issue now only happens in the old editor, that alone might make me consider switching to the new one.)
Am I the only wp user who has this issue? Is it fixed in the ‘new editor’?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi, I asked this a few weeks ago and got no answer, am adding the modlook tag now, as I still have the same question, thanks!

Hey there –
I’ll be happy to take a look. Can you let me know which post this is happening on?
Are you working in a web browser or through the desktop app? Which browser and version?
Does clearing your browser cache help?
If not, does the issue persist in a different web browser?

Thanks lizkarkoski!
This happens when I am editing any previously published post with page jumps, if the editor happens to open in visual mode. Any post, not just particular posts.I can’t remember if it happens when working on a draft post before publishing… I am pretty careful then. I make any / all page jumps last thing before publishing and only use the text editor to save them and in any subsequent work on the post.
Where I occasionally run into trouble with it if I was using the visual editor in a post or page (before adding any page jumps). The visual editor is handy for underlining and indenting, no shortcuts for that in the text editor, have to remember and type in the html codes.
If my last “save” was in visual mode, and I then forget to go over to text mode to save again, then the next time I open any post to edit, it will open in visual mode and wreck any page jumps I had previously incorporated into that post.
I’m sure when I first ran into this problem, I read about it in previous threads on this forum, where users said they just adapted to only using the text editor, since it wasn’t possible to keep page jumps if using the visual editor.
So it’s not just me, or at least back then it wasn’t just me.I’ve cleared my cache a few times over the last couple years and never seen where it changed this page-jump issue.
I have to go to bed now, will check this again tomorrow! But I am 99.9999% positive that clearing my cache is not going to affect this.

I use firefox. I think it’s the latest version. When I read previous mentions of this it was not tied to a particular browser, it was a wp bug.

staff-zinnia – OMG it has fixed itself! Went to check on the problem again before starting all the cache-clearing/ checking in other browsers/ removing add-ons routines, and the problem is not happening anymore!
…I am very happy but embarrassed I didn’t check it before bumping this thread up.
For some reason, my anchor points/ page jumps were getting wiped out when I was editing a couple weeks ago and aren’t now, sorry to have bothered you about it!

Hi there,
I’m glad to hear it’s working now, but it shouldn’t have happened to start with, in either editor. I regularly use the new editor to edit pages containing page jump links and have never encountered this issue myself.
If this happens again, please let us know, and remember to include a link to the specific post/page where it’s happening. One thing you can do is to make sure you save your draft/update the post/page before switching between visual/text. It could be that you switched editors before the change saved properly, leading to the changes being wiped.
