Page lagging severely when editing
-
I’ve cleared the cache and tried different browsers (Safari and Brave) after my main page started lagging severely (several minutes when changing a word or sentence). I’ve deleted some of the content of the page and nothing has improved. The problem appears to be on WordPress’ end, not mine. Please help.

There are several reasons why your pages are lagging. Most of the time it’s due to locale connection problems or because of browser issues and extensions. You find usefull info at https://wordpress.com/support/browser-issues/

Hi there, just to check – does this lag happen when you’re editing one particular page, or making a change to any page on your site?
I had a look at your front page now and it seems like there are some ‘browser console errors’ coming up in relation to the embedded video; would you know if the lag started when the video was added to the page?

Hi, Thanks for the replies. Lagging is only happening on the one page. I’ve tried different browsers, different devices, clearing the cache, making a copy of the page and deleting content (including the video I had on there). Nothing appears to work. I don’t remember if the problem started when I posted the video embed. But the problem persists even with the video deleted.

Hi there,
I noticed that when I examine your homepage, it appears to be using a lot of group blocks that are nested within each other, and I think this is the source of the issue you are having. I recorded a video so you can see what I mean. You can view the video at this link
You can see (in the video) the first few paragraphs of text are nested deeply within several group blocks who’s function is unclear. I counted a total of 16 before I was able to reach the paragraph text for example. Did you intend to nest your content so deeply within groups like this?
I think the editor is really struggling here since the content is buried so deeply within the layout blocks, add that is adding quite a processing lag. If you take this text out of the groups and instead move it to the top level, does that resolve the issue? In list view you can drag and drop blocks (to another part of the list) to move them, which will remove them from the chain of groups.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Hi, Many thanks. I’ve little experience of this part of the editor, and the groupings were not intentional. Can you tell me how I retain my content visually whilst removing the groupings? Cheers

Hey there,
No problem!
I created this screenshot here to show you how to access the groups and how to ungroup them.

Looking at the page structure, I’d recommend doing this step by step, to make you sure you maintain those visuals.
I’ve pointed out the undo button incase you run into issues with that process.
I hope this helps!

Great. I think that’s solved the lagging problem now! I’ve just lost background colour by ungrouping things but will work on recovering this. Many thanks again.
