Please become aware that here at wordpress.com we cannot advertise on our blogs. See these entries in support documentation so you are very clear about the differences between free hosted wordpress.com blogs and hiring a web host and using a free software install from wordpress.org.

If you are referring to a wordpress.com blog they you should not be seeing advertising in sidebars at all. Please post the URL for the site in question starting with http://

If you are looking for a theme for your wordpress.com blog that has specific features the place to look is here> Appearance > Themes. These are the only themes we can use on wordpress.com blogs. You can use the search utility and Feature Filters in your Dashboard > Appearance > Browse Themes > Feature Filters to locate themes of interest to you. (A-Z, Popular, Features)
Each theme has a thumbshot and a features summary description. You can browse and when you find one of interest you can click “Preview”. When you are ready to make your selection you can click “Activate”.

If anyone has an answer to my specific question, which is simply to help me learn about layout and where things go, I would appreciate your reply.

You’re welcome. Be aware that Perez ALSO sometimes has ads in his background images, which don’t count as columns at all. He’s just piled stuff on.

@prettypeoplereader
This is waht you provided > (e.g. Perez or crazy days..) I have never laid eyes in either of those blogs and you did not provide a link to either one of them. Please post links when you refer to sites in forum threads.
Thanks. :)
