Page Management Question
-
Hi, sry if this is a noob question.
I been adding pages in the blog but when i click publish…
nothing actually happen in the blog even thou in the page management section, it said my page is published -
Even when you click “Publish” for a page, sometimes you have to go back and “Edit” that page and manually click the “Published” radio button on the right column, then click “Save.” I’ve had to do that several times. Hope this helps.

Is this your blog http://moinansari.wordpress.com/ ? If so, in this post, http://moinansari.wordpress.com/2007/11/29/auld-lang-syne-and-other-fine-and-dandy-songs-empty-slogans-must-be-replaced-by-concrete-benchmarks/ you have a bullet point that begins “Compare to the USA..” that needs to be reformatted as it is extending over into the sidebar area, which is causing the widgets to go to the bottom of the page. Some browsers ignore this and do not break the layout, but some do (IE7 I know for sure will break the layout). Edit and fix that line and everything should be fine.

Hi, can I add another question about page management. I’m completely bewildered.
I have a main page with a welcome message and a series of posts. I want to make a static page as a welcom page and then be able to get on adding posts to the post page.
I followed instructions about making a new page called home and setting it as the front page in Reading options. However my original mainpage is nowhere to be found and I want to set it as the posts page. I have 2 other pages that show up as available for various editing activiites but the old mainpage doesn’t appear so I can’t choose it to make it into the posts page. Help! It’s a complete pain as every time I want to make a new post I have to mess around with the date and time of the top post and the new post in order to keep the welcome post at the top and the whole shebang making some sort of sense.
Hope my question makes sense.
I’ll need a response that is pretty hand holding and basic as I am no techie. I can’t see a way of renaming the mainpage which I suppose might be a route.
Thanks in advance.
Gina

Dr Mike is no longer volunteering here at wordpress.com. If you click on the word “sticky” in his comment, you will get to the post he is referencing.

thesacredpath. Thanks for taking the time…
Yes I am copying from Word. How can I avoid formatting errors…or are you suggesting to type directly in WordPress?
I don’t see my picture on the blog. How can I get it on my blog?
Also, let me know how to get back here…it took me a while..duh! what can you expect from a newbie…strange but true…(smile!!)

If you copy something out of Word, paste it into “Notepad” (not wordpad though) as that will take out all the formatting. Then copy that and paste it into your blog. It is the formatting that is getting everything screwed up for you I am sure. Then, style it the way you want once you have the raw text into wordpress editor!

There are known issues when trying to paste text from MS Word. If you are using the rich text editor in wordpress then there is a special icon on the advanced tool bar which when clicked brings up a window where you can paste the text from Word and then insert it into your post. To get to the advanced toolbar, click on the last icon on the right in the editor (looks like rows of dots in a square). The paste from word icon looks like a page with a “W” on it. Click on it and a window will pop up where you can paste the text from word, and then click insert. It strips out all the code and pastes it as plain text. MS Word adds a bunch of extra code that can cause problems, and using this function in the rich text editor will clean things up and paste it as plain text.
Alternately you can paste the text from word into a text editor such as Notepad or Textedit (mac) first and then copy that text and paste it into your post.

http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/15/what-do-all-the-icons-mean/If you want an “about” widget in your sidebar with your picture, you will have to use a text widget and put the link to the picture in the widget and then type in whatever text you want.
The following two links will get you started on using a text widget.

@moinansari
If you click on “view my profile” at the top of the forum page while logged in, it will list all the thread which you have posted in. You can then click on the thread to get to it. -
I always just post the text from Word into the html editor, then click over to the Visual editor and all the formatting is happily stripped away. Saves opening any other program.

Thesacred path: Thanks so much. How do I get my picture on the front page as it used to be
-
Was your picture in a post? Or was it in a text widget in your sidebar? Or, is the picture you refer to the one we see here as an avatar next to your name?
-
I pretty sure he’s referring to the default “about” widget. Seems like a good candidate for a “copy and paste”.
