page not displaying correct

  I registered a domain for my website and downloaded and installed wordpress in the wordpress directory however my site was displaying as http://www.example.com/wordpress I researched and found that If I move the files from the wordpress directory to my root directory it would resolve my problem.

  However, the page is showing up all funky and when i type in the wp-admin it still tries to redirect the wordpress directory (www.example.com/wordpress/wp-admin) but the page gets a 404 not found as the file has been moved to the root directory.

  please let me know what is needed to fix this problem.
