page not found when moving domain to wordpress.com

I’m considering moving my domain (now on a TypePad blog) to a wordpress.com blog. What happens when people click on Google search results for my old blog? I understand that WordPress has a “Not Found” page. Will that work?

    Example:
My old blog looks like this
    mydomain.com/blog/year/month/my-post.html
When imported into wordpress.com this becomes
    mydomain.com/year/month/date/my-post/
Google search points to the old files, but will clicking at the old URL take visitors to my now domain-mapped on wordpress.com blog and display the “Not Found” message, where visitors hopefully will go look for the post since at least they landed in the right place?

  • If you map the domain to your WordPress.com blog any links to the domain will be sent here. WordPress will attempt to find the correct post and load it. If it doesn’t find a match, the Not Found page will appear.
