  I am building a private genealogy site and using the “Thirteen” theme, which apparently doesn’t support ordering pages numerically instead of in the default alphabetical format. Is there a way to over-ride this default by including a hidden alphabetical character as the first letter of each page title?

  The page order numbers alone affect the page tabs in the header. Thirteen has no header tabs, so you are referring to the page tabs in the sidebar. You need to go to Appearance>Widgets, open the Pages widget, select “Page order” from the “Sort by” dropdown, click Save.
