Page password
-
Hallo!
A client of mine wants to have a private page where paying people can view private files.
I thought it was easily solved with a password protection on the page but other people can still view the files when typing in the names into google!
How can I fix this issue?
Thank you in advance!

Hi there!
Can you share the address of the site you’re working on?
Just a heads up that we primarily help with WordPress.com sites on this forum. If your site is hosted elsewhere, that’s using the WordPress.org software, and the support for WordPress.org sites is handled by your hosting service provider. The WordPress.org community forum is also a great place for help with WordPress.org sites.
There are some differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org. If you aren’t sure about them, please check the following page that explains it well: WordPress.com vs WordPress.org.
If you’re using WordPress’ built-in page password feature, the page content will not be visible to anyone who doesn’t enter the page’s password. Search engines may display the page, but they shouldn’t show the actual content of the page unless the page was previously visible publicly without a password.
You did mention “view the files,” so files are different from pages. If you’re uploading files, that is, by default, visible to anyone with a link.
Of course, you can add more features to your site (such as uploaded file permissions) by using third-party plugins. You can search for plugins at https://wordpress.org/plugins or post on https://wordpress.org/support/forums for plugin suggestions.
Regards
