Page pictures appear with low quality
-
Hey you guys and gals, an issue ive been noticing. When you look at the pictures that come with my posts on my main page sonyrumors.net, the quality is very low and almost blurry. But when you click on the picture and it takes you to the picture, it looks fine with the quality I originally intended for it to be…any idea why?
For example, current top post, and then go to this link http://sonyrumors.net/2009/05/22/sonydeals-psp-deal-144/psp_144/
or just click on any of the pictures to see the quality difference. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Probably it’s because you don’t choose the right size when adding the image to a page? There’s thumbnail, small, medium, large, full size. Test again. Otherwise I don’t know actually.

well I though that too and ive tried the different sizes and no luck with that. Also though, when you click on the picture and it takes you directly to the photo, its still in the same theme size/format so the size of it dosent actually change, just the quality of it…

Seem strange. Are you sure you’ve uploaded a high quality photo? Even though I only upload photos that are like 500×500 the quality of the pics never reduces. Hopefully someone else on wordpress knows what to do.

Thanks for your responses so far Michaelamaria;
Yea, the quality of the photos themselves is for sure not an issue, ill post an example when you view the same pic, 2 different ways. This is when you click on the article or just view it on the main page:
http://sonyrumors.net/2009/05/20/sony-not-discontinuing-rolly-in-the-us/This is when you just click on the picture that takes you to a wordpress page that just had the picture:
http://sonyrumors.net/2009/05/20/sony-not-discontinuing-rolly-in-the-us/sony_rolly_neverletgo/Note the huge quality differences in the picture in terms of the color and the font.

Take a look at this blog post that I did on one cool site about wordpress and image quality a while back as I think it may answer your question: http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2008/05/03/how-good-is-wordpress-at-resizing-and-resampling-your-images/ .

Hey thesacredpath, your post is actually a very in depth and fantastic article on future posting of pictures. Having said that and unless I missed (and its possible lol), my issue is still that in one area versus another area of my blog, wordpress displays the same image different, via my example above.
Ive tried in that sense of posting the picture to a smaller size or larger and thats a no go. I also took your advice of posting it via original size and letting WP do the resizing and thats also a no go because this blurry thing only happens in the main post or main blog page but when you click on the photo and it takes you to just the picture, the picture looks as intended, but more so, its the same size (actual dimension and file size) so….I dunno! Its driving me bonkers though lol.

I have not verified this with anyone at wordpress, but based on my experiences with inserting images of late, there have been some changes to things. In addition to creating new images via resampling for thumbnail and medium, it is apparent that they do the same thing for the image size needed for the attachment page.
On your main page, and also on your single post page, the image is 430 x 323. Those are fuzzy because those are resized by the browser – not one of the image sizes that wordpress creates (resamples) from of your original image when you upload it.
When you click on the image in the single post page and go to the attachment page, you are then looking at an image size that wordpress actually resamples (460 x 345) from the original and thus it is of better quality than what the browser would come up with.
If you click on the image in the attachment page then you get the original image that you uploaded with nothing done to it by wordpress or the browser.

ahhhhh. Very interesting and informative. I guess one of the things ill try and report back on here will be, what if I make the images automatically (460 x 345) or around there so there dosent have to be any resizing…I wonder if my quality will then not fluctuate. Thanks a lot for that clarification :)

Oh my god, would it be too early for me to confess my love for you thesacredpath? That was totally the issue. I went back to photoshop, resized a few of my top posts to the roughly 460 by 345 and everything looks as intended now! Thanks a heck of a lot!
