Page tabs

I apologize for my terminology. I would try to search for past threads, but I don’t know what to call anything. Ihave a few questions:
1) I noticed that at the top of my blog, my pages (Home, French I, French II and Spanish I) are nicely displayed from right to left. I don’t know how I did that, but I love it. Since I have that, I have no use for them to be displayed over to the right under “Classes” (note: I will change the wording in Welcome blog once I get everything straightened out).
2) Also, you will notice that I have two “Home” tabs above which go to the same page. How do I get rid of one of them?
3) And finally, (and this is unrelated so if I need to repost this in a new thread, let me know) How do I get rid of all of the extra things on my blog over to the sides like “Categories” and “Archives”? Is that possible? I assume the Meta thing is up simply becasue I am logged in.
I just want my page to be as straight forward and organized for my students as possible so that they can get what they need and it is self explanitory for any technologically-challenged parent :) Over time, though, I do hope to start using more of the blogging functions, but for the time being, I need it to be straight forward and simple.
Thanks in advance!

1&3: The items in your sidebar are called widgets. Go to Design>Widgets, click “Edit” for each one you don’t want, click Delete, click Save Changes when you’re done with deleting.
2. [removed by staff because this is incorrect]

To remove one of the home links see http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/07/01/i-have-2-home-page-links/

Okay. That page you linked explains my exact problem. I went to fix it but under the parent page drop down what is selected is “Main Page (no parent)” and the only other options are “French Ia” “French IIa” and “Spanish Ia” (in other words, my other pages). Nothing else. So… where do I go from here?

Can you give us a link to your blog, starting with http? It’s so much easier to answer when we can look at it.

Thanks, that makes it easier. You might also want to check out the sticky at the top of the forum about linking your name to your blog; it’s good for hits, too.
Have you edited your sidebar at all? If you haven’t, the Pages widget won’t show on your Widget page in your sidebar column. To start from scratch, just add a widget to the sidebar on that page; this wipes out all existing ones. Then you can add in the ones you want and the Pages widget should not be among them. I recommend the Recent Posts, Archives, Recent Comments, and Search widgets to start with.
