“Page” template is the only option in change template
-
Hi,
I have a couple of templates displayed in Manage Templates but for some reason “Pages” is the only one option for changing a page’s template. Besides “Edit template” and “Template preview”, “Create new template” appears on new created pages.
Can someone explain me why and help me figure it out please?
I checked other topics on this subject but their solution didn’t work for me.
I tested on Brave and Microsoft Edge and I got the same result.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Templates are like skeletons for your pages or posts. You create templates and add placeholders where you want to add different type of content. When you use that template to create a page/post, the actual content from the page/post will be added to the specific placeholder.
I have a couple of templates displayed in Manage Templates but for some reason “Pages” is the only one option for changing a page’s template. Besides “Edit template” and “Template preview”, “Create new template” appears on new created pages.
By default, all pages are assigned the “Page” template. You will have the option to create a new template and assign it to a page.
The Blog page is set as the default Posts page as you can check from here and uses the Blog Home template. This helps display all your latest posts on the Blog page.
You can read more about templates here: https://wordpress.com/support/templates/

Hey,
Thank you for responding :).
It looks like my Blog page is using “Pages” template instead of “Blog Home”.
The problem is I can’t change it to “Blog Home” because “Pages” is the only option in the templates dropdown.
Another problem is that I can’t unlock the items in List view (I want to delete some of them). After clicking the lock icon, nothing happens.

To ensure that the Blog page uses the Blog Home template, you will need to make the Blog page the Posts page under your site’s Reading settings at My Sites > Settings > Reading (https://wordpress.com/settings/reading/)
Try going to your site’s pages (like the Blog page) under My Sites > Site > Pages (https://wordpress.com/pages/) instead of through the Site Editor to see the templates that are assigned to pages like your Blog page.
Another problem is that I can’t unlock the items in List view (I want to delete some of them). After clicking the lock icon, nothing happens.
If you want to edit one of your pages templates, try going directly to the template from My Sites > Appearance > Editor (https://wordpress.com/site-editor/) > Templates.
Alternatively, go to My Sites > Site > Pages (https://wordpress.com/pages/) and then edit the template directly from a page.
I hope that helps!
